Any suggestions for an inexpensive USB midi keyboard/controller to use with Reason 3.0?

M-audio's pretty decent and not expensive.

I really like this Alesis one:

If you can afford it, I *strongly* suggest picking up a keyboard which is compatible with Reason's new Remote technology.

My MicroKontrol supports it, and it's such a bonus. In a nutshell, when you assign the keyboard to a certain instrument in Reason, the function of all the faders / knobs on the keyboard switches to those specific to the instrument. What's nice about the microkontrol is the LCD which tells you what things are assigned at the moment.

i have the Korg microKontrol and am not very happy with it. I thought i could save a few bucks and get a keyboard/drum pads in one unit, but it turns out that both are pretty half-assed.

the drum pads are pretty unresponsive and require you to push them all the way down before a sound triggers. this pretty much makes any kind of percussion programming impossible. real pads just require a tap, not a push.

the keys are OK but are tiny and toy like. they are springy enough to be able to vary velocity between key strokes, but are pretty far from feeling like real piano keys.

the knobs and slidesr are a saving grace for the unit, but i find myself not using them at all in reason. most "knob" adjustments and automations i end up doing with the mouse.

the microKontrol is definitely an introductory level midi controller. i thought i could save a few dollars by buying this unit, but now realize what i'm missing out on if i had only spent a little more.

Edirol PCR-30

got mine 100$ on closeout

I've dropped mine on pavement a few times now and it's still rockin. Knocked a knob off for a bit, but it went back on with ease.

Controlling reason is real easy with any midi interface. Just right-click, edit remote control, learn from midi input, twist desired knob on control, bada-bing-botta-boom, your in control.

Search ebay. Look for a box with midi capabilities that looks like something you could get dirty with.

damn that's a really good price for that Shocked

i was gonna get the pcr-30, but i decided to get the alesis photon x25 instead. it works really good with live 5, but i'm finding that it's a tad buggy with reason 3.0 Confused they need to update their drivers for that asap! my friend mike has an x25 as well and he was having the same problems with it. btw thanks for the info mark, i might've gotten a different controller if i saw your post before i got the x25...oh well i'm still happy with it.

the xyz controller dome (air fx) is pretty slick and works really well with filters. i've used the air fx alot in the past and always liked the action of it, that was a main factor in why i got it. another nice touch is that the pitch & mod wheels light up when you increase/decrease their motion Cool also the beefy rubberized knobs turn 360 degrees and are very solid in construction. the keys have a nice and tight feel to them.
