Greetings all!

Just moved to the area from Florida (hurricane fugee) and heard about this board from someone from some record store (sorry, I forgot the names). A lil about me: I'm an IT guy who's travelled around the country looking for work. Searching for employment has found me living in New York, Vegas, Lost Angeles, and various other spots. Things I love about travelling is sampling the lovely foods from the various cultures around the country and meeting new poeple. I listen to a bit of everything, but I really dig jungle/dnb (DJ Marky, Patife, SUV), funky breaks (DJ Icey, Baby Anne, X), downtempo hiphop (Fat Jon, Nujabes, DJ Shadow), and recently into a lot of Brazilian grooves (samba, funk, bassa nova). I was hoping to get some recommendations on where I can go to hang out, listen to new music, and hopefully make new friends. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Howdy, and welcome!

For downtempo... you'll probably enjoy Touch when it re-opens next week, Mercury Lounge on Wednesdays, and Fusion on Thursdays.

For breaks, Stir-Fridays at Abbasso.

Check out the local events listings for details:

Welcome!

I'm suprised the D&B heads haven't chimed in yet...perhaps they sleep late. Regardless there's a weekly D&B night on Wednesdays at Spy. Lots of good locals, headliners once a month or so (Tech Itch on the 28th of this month IIRC). There is also the occasional D&B event at Mercury Lounge (John B on the 23rd)

For downtempo/hip hop type stuff look for Jugoe and/or MisterBradleyP (petty points on this board). They are also the ones to look for for the brazilian grooves type stuff. Brad plays at Fusion on Thursdays, and Jugoe will probably be playing at Touch from time to time (it reopens on the 16th).

Thanks for the tips, yall! I appreciate it. I'll try and check out some of these places when I have time off from work. Anyone into capoiera or train in mma/bjj? I'm looking for some local places.

What part of Cleveland do you live in? I train mostly on the west side, but I know of a few other spots you may be interested in.

welcome to the fold.

perogies and slavic foods and deserts are the only uniquish foods around here.

if not for Samurai Champloo, i would have never known Nujabes and Fat Jon. its interesting how they were able to manipulate classic japanese elements into that "downtempo hiphop" style.
