i have been hearing many comments from people lately that basically allude to the understanding that "the cleveland club scene is dead." just wanted to see what others on this board think.

p.s.
pretty please don't respond with numbers from the past oakenfold/tiesto/arminvanthomas/cowboyhatguy show . . . you either know what i am referring to or don't. those shows are fine, but (too me) don't really reflect on the overall clubbing scene in cleveland.

I agree that rock concerts don't reflect the atmosphere of overall clubbing.

We've had this discussion 1,000 times.

The club scene isn't going anywhere, it is just a matter of figuring out how to entertain people and still do it in a forward thinking manner.

Not presently being in Cleveland I can't state a proper opinion but before my departure low attendance and general lack of interest from the public seemed to be the norm; what was to be expected at best.

On the other hand I don't believe it's the quality that's ever been lacking.
But it just seems interests have shifted or something.

Then again you have to keep in mind that people have been saying that it's dead for quite some time NO ?

I dont' know why but I seem to have the impression that Cleveland may be a transitional town ( people coming and going a lot ) but I think I might be wrong on that fact but if I'm even close that could explain for a lot of ups and downs. Any thoughts?

"forward thinking manner". That's the key. Move forward, NOT back!!!!

If you have people that LOVE the music and need it, is it dead?? It may not be huge numbers, but there still are people, right??? Personally I have come to like the smaller shows a ton better than any huge club party/concert. You get to feel like you are a part of the show and really do matter, because you do!!

sure, 20-30 people, but is that really a scene? i mean, wouldn't it be more fun to just have house parties and invite these same people over each time you do?

If it's 20-30 ppl, sure then just do it at a house or small venue. But those 20-30 ppl get down, right??It all depends what you want to do. How big does a "Scene" need to be???And then it all gets broke down to what type of edm that scene lisenes to. DnB, House, breaks, techno, etc.....there are a lot of people who only support "their scene" too, right?? Crazy, but true!!

So far I've had the most fun at warehouse parties down here with maybe 50ppl and BYOB!! Good stuff and quality, so yeah I consider it a scene, just not a huge one. House heads unite!!

Nah...I'd have to clean up my house each time then.

You know, I've had countless conversations with people both on and off this board about this same subject and we all seem to go round and round on this issue...IMO the scene is different from many expectations from many venues, promoters, etc from the way it was when it was what it was...there are STILL people out there searchin and they all come out at some point or another when they can do it! In the meantime, all we can do is continue to grit our teeth and push the envelope around here as much as possible...let's just do it in a way that will push everything forward...if only a little! It beats spinning our creative wheels and continue to bitch about it...right?

What seemed to work at Vinyl in Denver was they had like 4 or 5 different floors and they were playing hip hop in one room, techno in another, chill music in another, breaks in another, house in another...

Everyone was moving between all the rooms. There wasn't a sense of people "not getting it" and only staying in their one genre.

THEY ARE SELL OUTS. FUCK THEM. STUPID BLIND PEOPLE FOLLOWING THE MASSES.

^^^^That would be the attitude you would get on this forum about a club who even tried that here.

Who called the thought police on Evasion here?

Now he doesn't say anywhere that you CAN'T comment on these. he asks nicely sure, but that doesn't get you anywhere sometimes.

The fact of the matter is, whether you like it or not, these shows reflect on the scene. As a matter of fact, these shows are responsible for opening more people up to this scene. Therefor, that makes them quite an active member in it does it not. Fuck it, I'll say it, these shows create the scene. I wonder how many poeple had floodgates open up to them the first time they even heard a trance mix CD. Or one of the many origins of trance. I'm not quoting numbers, because I don't know any. What I know is what I see when I go out. Honestly, the audience at these shows seem far more happy than any of the poeple I see at some others. There's none of that snobby "I'm to cool for school" vibe goin on.

Whatever, keep stickin that nose up in the air fellas.

Oh yeah,

I rolled down to columbus with Evasion once to see the dude spin at Redzone. Think I got a pretty good idea about this guy. As in, he's no fightin man. Very good heart. I would like to know what he said quite honestly. See, I have this ability to like, oh i don't know, accept others poeples opinions I guess.

Bullshit

Bullshit

Bullshit

Here we are again...

You have a LARGE group of poeple going to Oakenfoild/Tiesto/Arminvanheldinsheldinfuck shows. LARGE groups of poeple waiting to be opened up to more of the business. Anytime any of these poeple try to dig a bit deeper, they encounter arrogant assholes like DJ vodka.

Face the fuckin facts....

The scene is dead....

Because YOU all kill it before it can even go anywhere.

Someone needs to throw a party called GOD SAVE THE SCENE, too!
I give my full permission (on the condition that I get in free, and get a couple free drinks to boot!) to use the name.

To The Scythian:

Heads up: Brad is a phenomenal, eclectic, versatile, seasoned DJ.
He is also busting his ass as a promoter, bringing rare, unusual, new acts into town on a regular basis, as well as underground favs like ?uestlove from the Roots, for example. I'm curious if you are old enough to have gone to any Nitty Gritty shows? Touch Supper Club? B-Sides? Mercury?
Think and say what you want, but listen to this if nothing else...don't just hear/read it, but truly listen:

it often shows a fine command of language to say nothing at all.

This thread is so stupid... BUT FUCK IT... I've had enough....

Quote:
Brad is a phenomenal, eclectic, versatile, seasoned DJ.

I'd like to see him spin, but i never see him on any events...Is dj vodka his real performing name... When does he play next or when is his next event he's promoting? One or the other, I will defiantly go to see this guy. And I'll make it a point he meets me too...

How come it seems nobody's interested in my up-in-coming dates? I was the only Dj from Cleveland to represent @ WEMF and I didn't even get a "congratulations"?... Actually now that i think about it, there were only 2 Dj's from the entire USA that played on the New Talent Tent... How many other DJ's from Cleveland have even played @ WEMF ? (and there were 12 other opportunities)

Little things like that make the scene worse... You people should be proud that a Cleveland local made it on an event of such caliber.

After DJ vodka (an almighty moderator of clevelandnightlife.net) asked me to delete my post the other day; I was pissed all day. I was pissed because of the fact that this dude asked for the "scene's" input, then he asked to "FILTER" the "Scene's" input...

You wanted to know about the "alleged" scene right?

Basically all i said was...

"Cleveland Needs to Be More Of a EDM Community"

I explained that instead of hating on others events, Just "Shit the Fuck Up" and Don't go !!!... Keep your feelings out of the public eye... Instead of talking shit...(like right now) Everyone needs to learn to get along... People need to grow up and act there age... I'm probably one of the youngest users on this forum and I'm more mature than some...

<<<FINALLY>>>

I think this website ruin's the scene...

It "COULD" be a vital resource for Cleveland's EDM if some people didn't instigate arguments all the time...
