I don't think it's fair to blame the writer. Direct quotes are direct quotes.

Amy, I've got a funny story about this next time I see you.

But sometimes a writer can take quote one part of a paragraph and spin the point of an issue into a entirely different direction than what was intended thus missing the original point entirely... then again this guy could truly be an asshole, but I was waiting to meet him before I come up with that conclusion.

They tend to act even more like pretentious assholes? Clothes make the marketing...not the man...A thug in a three piece suit is still...well you get the idea!

Okay, so I'm man enough to admit I was wrong in some ways.

My apologies to Jude and Amy. I took the article at face value... and it's not fair to judge someone based on a few sentences.

----

All I am saying is that at face value, I felt this entire article was completely offensive to everyone on this board on many levels.

If he wants to meet sophisticated people who are into art and fashion then why not go to a fashion show, one of the bazillion art galleries around town, or MOCA, or the art museum. If he wants to be around affluent people then why not hang out in Bratenahl at the Yacht Club or join the new private club at the Franklin Castle. Maybe he should just spend more time at Beachwood Mall... there's plenty of affluent people into fashion there. If he wants to meet people who travel, why not get a job at the airport Marriot, or at one of the food or magazine shops inside the airport.
Or even better, if people like him think Miami is so superior to Cleveland, than why not move there instead of pretending Cleveland is Miami. Lake Erie is not the ocean. We don't have nice, big clean beaches and all that gives Miami its character, so why not let Miami be Miami? Really.
This is why I've yet to step foot in MODA, and why I never will. Whoever thought that any place in this city needs to cool off in four seconds was on crack. Newsflash: Cleveland is really cold most of the year.

--

Anyhow, bottom line:
Judging people by status symbols (car, clothes, and downtown loft) is utterly shallow... and that's what bothered me the most about those direct quotes.

---

OH, and, hey, I think I'll start a book club. But, at a pet shop. And, I think animals suck, but I'm gonna have it be about Cliff's notes. I only want to be around people who shop at Sam's Club and wear Burkenstocks with socks. I'm going to revolutionize book clubs. Rolling Eyes

no no no...they're not pretentious at all...I was just joking that suits didn't make frat boys civilized..they were still just as wild, and crazy and fun. LOL.

Just like you mistakingly took that article at face value you are doing the same with Moda.
Yes there are some problems with the way it was geared towards a SOBE feel but who hasn't? Most places aiming to be up scale in Clev. are going for that market. Don't focus on one place when the reason you dismiss that place would equal to leaving most places in the city out.

Where Moda failed with it's quest for hype, they made up with the highest quality club in terms of building, sound and lights.

I will admit to it not being attractive in a musical sense in a long time but next chance that comes up, don't miss out on the opportunity of a good night out just because it's placebo Florida.

I personally would love to frequent this event.

Nice suit jacket. Some dockers. Maybe a fine lass on my arm.

I'd have to get her real liquored up though, cuz when the night came to an end, if she wanted to, ya know, get it on, she'd be more tolerant of the jungle that is my apartment.

Some nights,

I like to sit in the corner, in the dark, with my spear that I made out of a stick I found on a scavange for food once.

I can see buffalo.

If she were drunk enough, she just might join me.

The hype definately made that place unattractive, as well as not establishing an identity. Sammy was actually a good choice for a resident (too bad they exploited his Miami home) but they put more emphasis on doing touristy things (big name djs) to draw the draw the crowd. I believe the #1 purpose of a guest dj is to educate your existing crowd and draw a few more people. The whole concept of booking a dj like a rock band is a whole other discussion.

Jdat is absolutely right, however. If there is a good reason to go to Moda... do NOT miss the chance. It is hands down, a world class club!

Okay...

I just wish I would have checked it out when Sammy was still there. He was a class act.
