I recorded a voiceover today for a video I'm working on for the CDC, and the speaker popped his "p" "t" and some of his "b's."

Using Sound Forge, what do you suggest I do to those areas of the file to diminish the popping sound?

Volume? Some filter? Some other effect or process?

None of the recording is clipping, just sounds bad when he says his p's, t's, and b's.

Anyone come across this problem before?

Answer ASAP, please...I have a deadline.

cool edit (now known as adobe audition) has a pop and click eliminator for vinyl and many more pre-built filters than soundforge for such things.

Argh. I recorded the files using Cool Edit at school, but brought it home because I am more familiar with Sound Forge.

Rats.

These seem to be the best answers I found from Googling around:

Okay...

This worked (from that link)

Effects>Dynamics>Multi-Band>ReduceLoudPlosivesPRESET

Sounds great now!

Thanks for the suggestion, Doug...but this'll work.

Very Happy

You always have to remember, once you've recorded something that clips...it's real hard to get rid of.

The best practice is to not have that sort of problem on the tape. If that means recording with compression, then that's what you have to do. If the speaker can't control his/her plosives...the sound engineer needs to compensate.

Microphone placement, mouth placement, use of a pop-filter, etc etc...all that needs to happen. Plosives are something that is generally delt with at recording time.

All I can think of (with my admitted limited experience) would be plying with the EQ...trying to roll off below 150 Hz...(as stated in the link you posted) Compression after the fact isn't going to mask clipping that's already in the recording.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Moose, but there wasn't any clipping...

just the popping of certain letters.. but they never went above 0.

I fixed it, though.
