I remember when the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame first opened. It was years ago. I went, and I was completely underwhelmed. Who paid to build that shit?

Whenever I talk to someone from out of town who has gone there, they were disappointed as well. In fact, I don't ever think I've heard any positive reviews of it from any out of towners I've talked to or come in contact with.

If anyone asks about things to do and see in Cleveland, I'll list a few things, and not even mention it. If they ask I'll honestly tell them its a waste of time and money. I mean, the place is so worthless, they don't even have induction ceremonies at it.. they have it in friggin NYC.

What's wrong with it? Well, its BLAND. I've had more fun in the line of Cedar Point's Disaster Transport than I have in the museum. It isn't what you'd expect a hall of fame to be, let alone a ROCK hall of fame. To sum up the Hall of Fame, it's pretty much a Hard Rock Cafe, but with less food. So what makes it worth having?

I'm convinced Cleveland shit themselves when they finally 'won' the ability to get the HoF here, but damn, we don't deserve it... not the way they pulled it off.

However, I can't think of anyway to really fix it. I mean, how do we make it interesting? I mean, the more interesting parts have been some of the exhibits, but if you're not a Beatles Fan or a Hendrix fan you're pretty much in for nothing.

I'm curious who agrees with me, and, if you disagree- can you tell me what about it inspires you, or that you like about it?

The building looks aesthetically pleasing...driving past it.

I actually find the Hall of Fame to be personally inspiring, if you really dig into the content. The John Lennon exhibit from a while back was amazing -- brought me to tears. Some of the other featured exhibits since then haven't been so great.

I think the key to enjoying it is to treat it more like a library for researching and/or learning more and less like something to be entertained by...

Having said that, though...It is difficult to piece together whole stories with just a few cosmetic artifacts

I think the music playing throughout makes it more entertaining. I get the point though in that there isn't really "catchy" multimedia. Amy is right in that you have to know how to approach it....I think going agian, I would actually enjoy it more, since I have different expecations now.

I don't have much to compare to; haven't been to any other so called rock n roll museums but I thought it was interesting when I was there.

I've been there twice ... once as a kid and once in summer 2002.

They had some Elvis exhibition at the time and it was mildly interesting ...

Apart from that I found everything rather informative.

Now if you wanted to be entertained I understand that it could bore you out of your mind but you have to read the signs watch the videos and I guess dream a little.

I especially liked the computer with the music you could listen to.
Forget how many artists were on there and that was certainly the most interesting thing. Must have listened to that for hours.

Hummm otherwise I really liked the display with all the drum sticks from every big rock band of the past or so it seemed.

I really don't know what else I could say it's been a while but if I could I would most certainly go again.

Ps: If you want to be entertained go to a science museums focused towards kids
I know Akron has the National Inventors Hall of Fame Museum.
I did go as a kid ( must have been same period as rock hall ) don't really remember the exhibits ( I think they sucked ) but at the end there were tons of things for kids and man it was a riot Razz

Now if I myself had to pick a favorite museum that'd be a little tricky but it would be either MoMa Nyc or Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in DC.
Saw the Smithsonian when I was like 6 or so one of the dearest memories of my childhood.
My parents bought me a little kite and it's possibly one of the only things I still have in my possession from my childhood. I visited the place back in 2003 and the spark and amazement was still there Shocked

Sorry for my rambling

So what's your idea of an interesting museum? Smile

I think fondly of the Smithsonian as being one of the best but I can barely remember anything there aside of airplanes, and the thing on the tightrope.

I love hands-on, interactive exhibits, even living history type of stuff....but then again, I'm a teacher and into the multiple intelligences theory.

thinking in that grain now..maybe the rock hall should have some more hands-on experiment with music kind of stuff....drum machines, instruments, music to mix up, producer studio type things to experiement with get more insight into the biz. (as oyu can tell by the suggestions I have little)

Don't apologize for rambling jdat. I appreciate all this feedback especially that it doesn't necessarily agree with mine. With this info I can perhaps appreciate it more and tell others how to.
